NRI Elder Care Services

Increasingly as more and more Indian professional, young or otherwise, migrate overseas for assignments in various parts of the world, the health care status of elders - parents or relatives, left behind is starting to decline. This is due to a combination of factors. One is that elders feel that they do not need to spend money on managing their health care as they are in reasonably good health and two, as they live alone, do not want to be a burden on their children i.e. the NRI's. They little realise that often the medical needs of close family and relatives left behind in India is a major source of concern and worry for their NRI children.

Elder care and geriatric care services have recently been in the news as more and more entrepreneurs find that this is a niche that can be exploited. Elder care consists of a few home care elements as well as diagnostic and emergency service elements. All these can be paid for as a package by the NRi, in return getting a one year medical plan for elder care. Apart from these elements elder or geriatric care also requires servicess from other affiliated medicl disciplines e.g. Ophthalmology, Dentistry, Psychiatry, Life style management, Physiotherapy, Dietetics etc.
Services in the sale and support of home based medical diagnostic equipment e.g. blood pressure monitors, diabetes monitors, nebulizers, weight management equipment etc will also receive a boost in this new NRI Elder care segment.

The objective of this blog is to start a discussion with the NRI and medical community on how to improve upon elder care services first for the NRI populations and then extending it to cover elders who do not have too much financial support to afford these services.
